Review from a not-really-super-Techy guy from Abe * UPDATE * May 19, 2011 I have this TV for over a month and just wanted to give an update: Image: Custom settings! Out-of-the-box, the picture is not the best quality. There is some graininess, a noticeable effect, and some soap opera blockiness with vivid images. Each owner should calibrate the settings to his liking. It is also very important to turn the unit ECO sensor - your TV is much brighter. I followed the custom settings on flatpanelshd.com where critic optimizes settings for best picture output, to more advanced options such as B-and R-gain-gain. From there, I have messed around with the other settings until I found a picture that I am very happy with. Comparison: Two of my friends bought a 55-inch LG LW5600 and I spent a good time watching their TV. The LG uses for passive 3D glasses are super cheap and comfortable - I hate to say this, but the 3D in that TV probably looks better overall, they also boast a contrast ratio of 8,000,000 to one, while the Sony EX720 is 1 to 2,000,000. What this means is the LG has a dazzling array of vibrant colors. But after changing my settings, I was able to produce comparable results and color picture on the Sony is noticeably lighter - you could not be a novel effect on the LG if you tried. Motionflow 240 also seems to make a difference as I can the wrinkles on the most interesting man in the face of seeing the world I could not see at LG. In addition, the LG had a lot of glitches when watching sports, which could be the cable or the TV 120Hz processor. Even a rating of five stars for a clearer picture than the picture with LG and enhanced tweaked settings. Original review below. * Image * From April: Very good. Granted I was watching a 37-inch LCD screen which has been almost six years, so even the vision of a wax crayon drawing on paper would be an upgrade, but I've seen ESPN HD, HBO HD and avatars in a lot of other random things. There was no clear dew (bright spots on the screen) at all. I was pleasantly surprised that it really was not an effect on the soap opera shows and movies I've seen. More Photos: It 'true that this is not a TV "true" 240Hz. And 'marketed as Motionflow 240Hz, which means basically that there 120Hz, but is a kind of technology that Sony made "to bring the frame rate up to 240Hz." That said, probably would not be able to tell the difference between 120 and 240Hz, however. I wish that picture was a little "brighter, but it's super easy to adjust settings. Moreover, the black levels, not as I like black. When you see a show with lots of black screen seems a little 'gray than black trim along the TV. Sound: GREAT. You know how sometimes watching a DVD or a TV show and music and background sounds are super strong and the voices and the dialogue is super quiet, and then you have to turn up the volume to hear dialogue, but then back down quickly, because some thriving music shit scared of you? Not so with this TV is obviously a technology that automatically detects smooth dialogue and background noise and enhances votes. In addition, changing the sound settings to "S-Force Front Surround," in reality there is a noticeable difference in quality, sound more like an echo in this setting. 3D: Suh-weeeeet! Ok, crosstalk problems are not definitive - it is a term I learned to read quite a few comments. You will see double images on some points, but I read all the TV review suffer from this problem because it is a new technology. DirecTV has offered my four-channel 3D, was a channel that shows nature shows running on dinosaurs, ocean life, space and stuff that I spent four hours at a stretch to see this channel and now I know a little 'random facts about dinosaurs, ocean life and things in space.
